BELLEVUE - Seattle U baseball split their doubleheader with California Baptist, winning game one but coming up short in game two, at Bannerwood Park on Friday.
GAME 1
Game one was all about the outstanding effort from starting pitcher, Peter Chronowski. He would go 6 and 2/3 inning while allowing just two earned runs and striking out five. The performance earned Chronowski his fourth win of the season.
The offense gave plenty of run support to their starter. The Redhawks got out to an early lead when three straight hits by Shane Jamison, Derek Gellos and Matt Boissoneault led to two runs coming home. After lying dormat for a couple of innings, SU added to their lead off a 2-run homerun by Grant Heiser in the bottom of the fourth.
California Baptist would get on the board in the fifth inning, scoring a pair.
Alex Jemal would then come out of the bullpen for the three inning save. Jemal would get the final seven outs of the game while not allowing a single run to convert his third save opportunity of the season.
The Redhawks would add three insurance runs in the seventh as they cruised to the opening win, 7-3. It was Seattle U's second win all-time over the Lancers and snapped an 8-game losing streak to CBU.
GAME 2
The Lancers struck first in game two, scoring a single run in the top of the first. SU would quickly tie the game up in the bottom of the inning off and RBI from Derek Gellos. They would then go ahead after Jackson Lind was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in another run.
The early seesaw action would continue with a 2-run homerun from CBU in the third, putting them up by one. That was promptly followed by a Trevor Antonson RBI single to level the game once again after three.
California Baptist would go on to score three unanswered runs between the fourth and eighth inning, taking the 6-3 advantage into the ninth inning. After holding the visitors scoreless in the top frame, the Redhawks would mount a rally in their last chance. Boissoneault would single to begin the inning, Connor O'Brien would then deliver a 2-run homerun over the left field fence, cutting the deficit to just one. The Redhawks would get no closer, falling 5-6.
With the series split at one apiece, the Redhawks and Lancers will battle for the series win tomorrow at Bannerwood Park. First pitch is set for 10:30 am with Riley Sinclair scheduled to make the start for Seattle U. Senior day festivities will take place at the conclusion of the game.
