SEATTLE – In their second straight extra inning game, Seattle U baseball came away victorious over New Mexico State, 13-12 in 13 innings, Friday night in Las Cruces.

The ballgame was a back-and-forth affair throughout, with 25 combined runs being scored. New Mexico State would get on the board first after plating two runs in the first inning.

The Redhawks (3-8, 1-0) would get their first tally of the game in the third, when Gavin Rork came home after a wild pitch by the Aggies. NMSU quickly went back up by two when they had an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.

Seattle U would bring in a total of six runs over the next two innings of play. Grant Heiser hit his second homerun of the season in the fourth, scoring him and Derek Gellos. A triple by Dylan Gerard would bring home Matt Boissoneault to give the Redhawks their first lead of the game.

NMSU (8-3, 0-1) would once again have a response as they picked up two more in the bottom of the fourth. Seattle U would continue the seesaw scoring when Jackson Reed and Boissoneault both had RBI doubles in the top of the fifth to put them back out in front by two.

The Aggies would score six straight runs over the next three innings, building a commanding 11-7 edge. The Redhawks never quit, as they had a four run eighth inning capped off by an RBI single by Gellos that brought home Julian Kodama.

After yet another run scored by NMSU in the bottom frame, Seattle U brought home the tying run in the top of the ninth on yet another wild Aggie pitch. Mason Hoover would shut down the bottom of the ninth as the Redhawks went to their second straight extra inning game.

Despite several chances, neither side could break through in extras as we went to the 13th inning. After back-to-back strikeouts, Jackson Reed would step into the batter's box and proceed to hit a solo homerun into the trees outside of Preseley Askew, putting the Redhawks up for good as they escaped extras with the 13-12 victory.

Morgan White (1-1) got the win on the mound for the Redhawks, after pitching the final three innings of the ballgame, giving up only one hit while striking out four.

Game two of the three game series will be tomorrow, March 12, with first pitch scheduled for noon. Peter Chronowski (0-2) will get the start for the Redhawks in the game.
