Dave Wainhouse, a former major league pitcher who pitched in the major leagues with Seattle, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Colorado, and St. Louis, is headed into his second year as pitching coach for Seattle University.

Wainhouse enjoyed a solid collegiate career at Washington State under legendary coach Bobo Brayton from 1986-1988, culminating in a junior year in which he went 7-0 with six saves and a 3.90 ERA in helping the team earn its second consecutive Pac-10 North title and NCAA Tournament berth. A first round selection by the Montreal Expos in the 1988 draft, Wainhouse played professional baseball until 2001, seeing time with the Expos, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies, and St. Louis Cardinals. Wainhouse played under several legendary managers such as Jim Leyland, Felipe Alou, Tony LaRussa, and Lou Pinella.

He pitched for the Canadian Olympic Team during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.

Since retiring from pro baseball, Wainhouse has worked with many youth baseball players in the Seattle area, and he has previously coached a summer team for 18-year-olds. After serving as the volunteer pitching coach during the school's first Division I season of baseball in 30 years, he will help Harrel in the recruitment of pitchers to Seattle University as they continue to build the Redhawk program.

“Hiring Dave Wainhouse is a huge boost for our baseball program. To have a guy with big league experience who knows what it takes to play at the ultimate level will help us attract talented pitchers,” said Harrel. “Dave has done a great job in our region producing Division I pitchers and has great relationships with many of the baseball people in our community. He is a quality human being and has great family support. Dave will be a great mentor for our student-athletes coming to SU and will help get us ready to compete right away in 2010.”
