SEATTLE – (June 6) Zach Wolf, Nick Meservey and Dalton Hurd were all selected in the 2018 MLB Draft on Wednesday, bringing the number of Seattle U baseball draftees to a program record four. The trio join ninth-round pick Tarik Skubal.

"To have Redhawks taken out of the best 1,500 players in the world is pretty darn good for a small private school in Seattle," said Redhawk head coach Donny Harrel. "We're very proud of these guys and I know they will represent our program and their families well in pro baseball."

Wolf, a junior RHP, was selected as the 537th overall pick by the Miami Marlins in the 18th round. Seattle U's all-time leader in saves with 27, Wolf went 4-1 with 10 saves and a 3.72 ERA during the 2018 season. He fanned 55 with just 14 walks in 46.0 innings and held opponents to a .217 batting average.

"Zach is a great story that shows the beauty of baseball," Harrel said. "Ten years ago a 5-8 right-handed pitcher would have never been drafted, and Zach proves that it's about getting outs and that having a heart means more than height."

Meservey, a redshirt junior LHP, was picked 625th overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 21st round. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native underwent Tommy John surgery during the 2017 season, but worked his way back into form in 2018. He struck out 19 in 25.2 innings and nine total appearances this past spring.

"We're very proud of Nick because he was a bit overlooked coming out of high school, but truly developed himself here at Seattle U and now has the opportunity to be a professional baseball player," said Harrel.

Hurd was selected 758th overall by the Chicago Cubs in the 23rd round. The senior outfielder departed the Redhawk program as the career record holder in nearly every offensive accumulation statistical category. His final season was his best as he hit .309 with 67 hits, including 17 doubles, one triple and eight home runs, while driving in 43 runners.

"For Dalton to go from a walk-on to a pro baseball player - it does not get better than that," Harrel said. "He worked his tail off for four years to hear his name announced today and what a great way to end a fantastic career."

Also selected on Wednesday was Seattle U signee Damon Casetta-Stubbs out of Kings Way Christian High School in Vancouver, Wash. The RHP was selected by the Mariners in the 11th round.

Wolf, Meservey, Hurd and Skubal (9th round, Tigers) joins 2017 draftee Janson Junk (22nd round, Yankees), 2016 draft picks Brock Carpenter (20th round, Dodgers) and Michael McCann (24th round, Royals), and 2015 draft selections Landon Cray (18th round, Rays), Will Dennis (23rd round, Orioles) and Brian Olson (34th round, Twins) in Redhawks selected since the reinstatement of the Seattle U baseball program in 2010.
