BELLEVUE, Wash. – (March 10) Seattle U baseball earned a doubleheader split with UAlbany on Friday at Bannerwood Park, opening the series with a big 12-4 win before falling 7-6 in 10 innings in the doubleheader nightcap.

The Redhawks (9-6) opened the day by collecting 15 total hits, including a perfect 5-for-5 performance from senior Sean Sutton. The lineup got to Great Dane starter Brendan Smith early, sending home five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sutton drove in two in the frame while a Dalton Hurd double scored two and a Chase Wells single sent one runner home.

Seattle U would add two runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Jake Prizina (2-0) had a solid outing on the mound, fanning eight batters in six innings while not issuing a walk. The junior lefty held UAlbany scoreless through five complete, before conceding one run in the sixth. Alden Huschle and Drake Maningo each pitched in relief in the win.

In the scheduled seven-inning nightcap game, the Redhawks rallied from behind, battling back from a 6-1 deficit to tie the score at 6-all in the bottom of the seventh. Both teams would go scoreless in the eighth and ninth before the Great Danes would break through in the top of the 10th.

Leadoff Patrick Lagravinese reached on a single through the left side, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a wild pitch by reliever Tyler Yeh (0-3).

The Redhawks would get runners on first and second in the home half of the frame, but a pop out would end the game.

Jake Cosgrove had the big hit in the game, launching a grand slam in the fifth inning that gave the Redhawks new life and made it a 6-5 ballgame. A bases loaded walk drawn by Justin Mazzone in the seventh tied the game at 6-6.

The Redhawks and Great Danes (4-4) wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a single game scheduled for noon.
