High School: Playing multiple positions throughout his varsity career, Hurd helped the Bend High School Lava Bears reach the playoffs all four years, including a trip to the state finals in 2013. He was named the conference player of the year in 2014, batting ..568 with a .628 on-base percentage and earning the team lead in batting average and RBIs. He was also a two-time team MVP and a First Team All-State infielder in 2014.

Personal: Hurd is the son of T.J. Hurd and Heide Hiskey, and he has three older siblings named Jessica, Justin, and Torrey, as well as a younger sibling named Cambria. He is majoring in sport and exercise science.
