SEATTLE – No. 19 Seattle University men’s soccer will travel to Loyola Marymount for a first round match in the 2019 NCAA Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Redhawks enter the tournament on a 14-game unbeaten streak.
Seattle U (14-3-4) won the 2019 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament in penalty kicks on Sunday afternoon. James Morris and Hal Uderitz scored and then Akili Kasim made three straight saves to lift SU to its fourth WAC Tournament crown since 2013. Kasim earned tournament MVP honors.
The Redhawks have a 14-game unbeaten streak, second-longest in the nation behind only Missouri State (18) for active strings. They went 10-0-1 in their WAC schedule and then went through at the WAC Tournament at Air Force Academy.
LMU went 11-5-3 in 2019. It recorded a 6-1-0 record in West Coast Conference play. Duhaney Williams, Bastien Oberli, Jack Sauls, and C.J. Neville have four goals apiece to lead a balanced Lion attack. Goalkeeper Jacob Jackson has a 0.82 goals against average in 15 starts this year.
Declan McGlynn paces SU’s attack with 10 goals and six assists, while James Morris and Noe Meza have eight goals apiece. WAC Defensive Player of the Year Nkosi Burgess anchors the backline, which has 10 shutouts in 2019.
The Redhawks will make their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last seven years. In each of their three previous trips, SU has won a match, with wins coming over Washington (2017), UCLA (2015), and Creighton (2013).
The winner of Thursday’s match will face seventh-seeded Stanford on Sunday.
