SEATTLE (Feb. 27) – Seattle University men’s soccer opened its spring schedule with a 1-1 tie against Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Redhawks will host Seattle Sounders 2 on Sunday, March 5, at Championship Field.

On Saturday, SU played to a draw at Portland. Freshman Noe Meza scored in the opening minutes for the Redhawks. The Timbers tied the game in the closing moments of regulation.

Seattle U will play a total of five matches this spring. On April 8, the Redhawks make the short trip to the University of Washington. Two weeks later, SU will play a pair of game, hosting Western Washington at Championship Field and then traveling to play at Seattle Pacific. The Redhawks close out their slate with a home contest against Oregon State on April 29.

Coach Pete Fewing’s squad won 11 games in 2016, marking their fourth straight season with double-digit victories. SU has Division I’s longest active home winning streak entering the 2017 season (16 games). Kyle Bjornethun was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year and then was selected by Seattle in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
