SEATTLE (Feb. 2) – Seattle University women’s basketball travels to Utah Valley on Saturday, Feb. 4. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game is set for a 3 p.m. (MST)/2 p.m. (PST) tip-off at Lockhart Arena.
SU (8-13, 5-1 WAC) has been one of the top teams in the league to this point. It rallied for a 67-54 win at UTRGV on Jan. 28, improving to 5-1 in the WAC. The Redhawks held the Vaqueros to 4-31 field goals shooting in the second half. Alexis Montgomery recorded 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists in the win, which marked the largest comeback by an SU squad since Feb. 28, 2013, when the Redhawks rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat Texas State in overtime at the Connolly Complex.
Utah Valley (6-15, 1-5 WAC) has dropped four in a row entering Saturday’s contest. It fell, 63-46, at New Mexico State on Jan. 28. Taylor Gordon led the Wolverines with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Mariah Seals notched 14 points.
Montgomery is in the midst of a stellar season for Seattle U. Among WAC players, she ranks second in scoring (16.3), third in rebounding (7.7), seventh in assists (2.7), and ninth in field goal percentage (42.7). Montgomery has collected double-doubles in three of her last four outings.
Gordon paces UVU with 15 points and 6.4 boards per game. Seals is averaging 14 points per game and Sam Lubcke is logging 11.7 points and 8.2 rebounds.
Saturday’s match marks the end of the first round of conference play for SU. It will close the regular season with five home games in its last seven contests.
