SEATTLE (March 7) – Seattle University women’s basketball heads to the 2017 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament, hosted at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, this week. On Wednesday, the second-seeded Redhawks take on #7 Chicago State in the first round at 4:30 p.m.

SU finished the regular season with a 13-16 overall record and a 10-4 mark in WAC play. After being predicted to finish seventh in both the preseason coaches’ and media poll, the Redhawks took second and won double-digit conference games for the first time since 2012-13. Seattle U is one of 10 Division I programs to increase its conference win total by at least seven games from last season to this one.

Alexis Montgomery earned All-WAC First Team recognition following a terrific regular season that saw her lead the Redhawks in points (16.3), rebounds (7.9), and assists (3.1). She was also chosen to the WAC All-Defensive Team. Kamira Sanders was named WAC Freshman of the Year, pacing WAC freshmen in scoring (7.0), assists (1.9), steals (1.6), and minutes played (32.2). Senior Kaylee Best was an All-WAC Second Team choice. She leads the league in made three-pointers (71) and scored her 1,000th career point earlier this season.

Chicago State (0-28, 0-14 WAC) is led by sophomore Kaylee Allen. She is averaging 14.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Jessica Cerda is adding 10.8 points per game, along with 48 made treys this season.

SU is 5-4 all-time in the WAC Tournament, including appearances in the finals in 2013 and 2014. NM State has won the last two WAC Tournaments.
