SEATTLE (Feb. 8) – Seattle University women’s basketball hosts Chicago State on Thursday, Feb. 9. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Connolly Complex. The contest is a red-out and pizza will be provided to the first 200 SU students in attendance.

In Coach Suzy Barcomb’s first season, the Redhawks are 6-1 in the WAC. It won, 69-51, at Utah Valley on Feb. 4. Alexis Montgomery was named WAC Player of the Week following her double-double effort in the victory. She posted 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists to lead Seattle U to its fourth road conference win. Senior Kaylee Best scored 15 points, hitting four three-pointers, while the Redhawk bench outscored UVU’s reserves, 17-0, in the game.

Chicago State (0-22, 0-8 WAC) is coming off a tough loss to WAC-leading New Mexico State on Feb. 4. The Cougars trailed by two points entering the fourth quarter before the Aggies pulled away for a 65-54 decision. Kaylee Allen led with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Cailin Nix added 14 points and 4 assists.

On Jan. 14, SU won, 64-51, at CSU’s Jones Convocation Center. Jacinta Beckley scored 15 points on 7-9 shooting, while Montgomery recorded 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists. Best logged 11 points and Wilma Afunugo scored 10 points off the bench. Allen paced the Cougars with 18 points and 12 boards.

Montgomery and Allen are the only two players in the WAC to lead their teams in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Montgomery has put up a double-double in four of her last five games and is tied for the conference lead in rebounds per game (10.0) in WAC contests.
