Seattle U women’s basketball will be the No. 6 seed in this week’s Western Athletic Conference tournament in Las Vegas and faces CSU Bakersfield for the second straight time after closing the regular season vs. the Roadrunners on Saturday. All games this week will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network and the tournament bracket can be found on page two of these notes. The winner of this week’s WAC Tournament will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Ross Represents Redhawks on All-WAC Team: Taelor received her second consecutive Second Team All-Conference honor, announced Monday, Mar. 7, after a vote of the league’s eight head coaches. NMSU’s Mark Trakh was named WAC Coach of the Year while UTRGV’s Shawnte’ Goff was named WAC Player of the Year and CSU Bakersfield’s Addi Walters was named WAC Freshman of the Year.

Ross Passes 1000 Career Points: Senior Taelor Ross became the 15th player in program history to surpass 1000 career points with a basket with 2:47 left in the contest vs. NM State on Feb. 20. Ross becomes the first Redhawk player to accomplish this feat since Sylvia Shephard on Jan. 4, 2014.

Scouting No. 3 CSU Bakersfield (11-18, 8-6 WAC): CSU Bakersfield earned the No. 3 seed in this week’s WAC Tournament as the Redhawks and Roadrunners will face off for the second straight time, closing the regular season in Seattle with a contest last Saturday, Mar. 5. Addi Walters was named WAC Freshman of the Year, ranking second in the league in three-point percentage. Walters was also named to the All-Newcomer Team while Batabe Zempare was named First Team All-Conference and to the WAC All-Defensive Team. The Roadrunners ended the regular season on a three-game winning streak, also defeating two of the WAC’s top teams  (UTRGV, Grand Canyon) before earning a win in Seattle.

Bonvicini Earns 700th Career Win: Joan Bonvicini won her 700th career game on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, a 59-45 win vs. Chicago State in Seattle. With the win, Bonvicini became just the 17th Division I women’s basketball coach, 22nd across all divisions, to reach this historic milestone. She is also currently 10th on the Division I active women’s basketball coaches list by wins.

Team to Hold Banquet Mar. 15: The Seattle U women’s basketball team will celebrate the seniors and look back at the year at a team banquet on Mar. 15 at the Space Needle.
