DENVER – (March 4) Alexis Montgomery of Seattle University women’s basketball has been chosen Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week, for games played on March 3. Montgomery tallied a triple-double on senior day to lead the Redhawks to a 30-point win over Utah Valley yesterday.
The native of Beaverton, Ore., is the first player in the 27-year history of the WAC to win six weekly awards in a single season. Montgomery won the conference’s honor on Dec. 4, Dec. 18, Jan. 1, Feb. 5, Feb. 12, and March 3.
On Saturday, the senior put up 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists, becoming the first player in WAC history to claim multiple triple-doubles. She had 14 points, 13 boards, and 10 assists against Kansas City on Feb. 8. Before Montgomery, there had not been a triple-double by a WAC player since 2006.
Through the regular season, Montgomery leads the WAC in scoring (19.4) and rebounding (10.3), and ranks fifth in assists (3.8) and steals (1.7).
Seattle U will face UMKC in the first round of the WAC Championship on Wednesday, March 7. Tip-off is set for approximately 8:30 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
