SEATTLE - (Sept. 16) Seattle U cross country competed in its first full-field event of 2017 at the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in Seattle. Senior Matthew Seidel led the Redhawk men to a third-place finish in the 8k race with while junior Olivia Stein led the women to to a sixth-place finish in the 6k. The University of Washington swept the invitational events. 

Stein set a new personal record in the 6k with a time of 21:43.29 and a 20th-place finish in the field of 78. Stein was followed by a pair of freshman, Rachel Kastama (39th, 22:30.13) and Megan Delorey (54th, 23:07.51), to provide a sixth-place finish in the nine-team field with a final score of 182.  

Seidel finished the race in 15th place with a time 25:09.50, a mark more then 20 seconds faster then his previous course personal record. Junior Eli Boudouris (16th, 25:23.61) and freshman Lance Slichko (18th, 25:45.96) rounded out Seattle U’s top three men’s runners. The men’s team finished in third place in the four-team field with a score of 75.

“I was really pleased with today's performances,” said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. “Across the board we raced really hard. It’s another big day for Olivia, Matt and Eli. Our freshman on both sides are doing really well too. I was really pleased across the board and it will be really fun in a couple of weeks when we get some additional runners back.”

The next race for the Redhawks is the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore., on Saturday Sept. 30.
