LAS CRUCES, N.M. - (Nov. 16) Katarina Marinkovic has been named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Year as voted on the the league’s eight head coaches, it was announced Wednesday night at the WAC Tournament banquet in Las Cruces, N.M.

The rookie from Belgrade, Serbia, was also named to the Second Team All-WAC and the WAC ALl-Freshman Team. Joining her on the All-Freshman Team was middle blocker Kory White.

Marinkovic earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors after ranking second in the league in service aces (0.51), third in points (4.41), fourth in kills (3.68) and 10th in hitting percentage (.261) during WAC play. She had four double-doubles on the season and all came in WAC matches.

White averaged 1.56 kills and 1.13 blocks per set during WAC play. The rookie hit at a .234 clip with 86 kills on 205 swings.

Earning the No. 6 seed in next week’s WAC Championship Tournament, the Redhawks will open play on Thursday, Nov. 17 against No. 3 seed CSU Bakersfield. First serve from the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M., is scheduled for 5 p.m. Central, 3 p.m. Pacific. All tournament matches will stream live on the WAC Digital Network.
