DENVER – (Feb. 20) The Western Athletic Conference announced Tuesday that Seattle U's Arshak Ghazaryan was named the WAC Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 12-18.

Ghazaryan, a sophomore from Yereman, Armenia, led the Redhawks to a 2-0 weekend at home, while also staying undefeated in his singles play. He defeated Southern Utah's #2 6-4, 6-3 to help SU get the 5-2 win on Saturday, and then on Sunday, he led the team to a 7-0 shutout of Pacific Lutheran with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over PLU's top competitor.

"Arshak came up very big for us in his singles matches this past weekend,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “He is one of our captains and definitely a vocal leader of the team, and he always competes hard and has a great desire to win.  This is a nice recognition for a very deserving student-athlete."

Ghazaryan is the second Redhawk to earn this honor in 2018; Colton Weeldreyer won it for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.

The Redhawks will look to extend their winning streak this weekend as they play two local matches; they host Northern Colorado on Friday at 12 p.m. at the Amy Yee Tennis Center, and then play a road match at the University of Washington on Saturday at 4 p.m.
