EL MACERO, Calif. – (Apr. 14) In its final regular-season tournament before the 2017 Western Athletic Conference championships, Seattle University men's golf held off Fresno State and Oregon State in the final round of play at the El Macero Classic to claim the team title by one stroke Friday.

The Redhawks held the low score in round one with a team score of 295 on the par-72, 7,097-yard couse at El Macero Country Club. They dropped into a tie for fifth with a second-round 312, but rallied in the final round on Friday with a 287 to finish 30-over 894.

Patrick Sato was the Redhawks' top individual finisher, placing in a tie for sixth with a six-over 222. The senior shot a four-under 68 in the first round to lead the field. He shot an eight-over 80 in round two, but rebounded with a two-over 74 in the final round.

Kyle Cornett saved his best for last to finish in a tie for 10th at eight-over 224 (73-80-71). Joe Harvie tied for 15th with a nine-over 225 (79-77-69), Zack Overstreet tied for 20th with a 12-over 228 (79-76-73) and Ross Kukula tied for 41st with a 16-over 232 (75-79-78).

Competing as an individual, Michael Almonte placed in a tie for 37th with a 15-over 231 (80-75-76).

Seattle U will compete in the WAC Championships on Apr. 26-28 at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
