Seattle University head softball coach Dan Powers has announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to come to Seattle University and join the softball program beginning in the 2009-10 academic year.

“This year’s class represents a strong move into Division I for our program. The athletic ability of each of these individuals will help make our team stronger as we move into the PCSC (Pacific Coast Softball Conference) next year (2010). I am very excited about the direction we are headed and look for great things to come from this year’s class,” Powers said.

Rosie Harrington is an outfielder from Missoula, Mont., the same hometown that produced recent graduate and all-star hitter Jane Purdy. At Loyola Sacred Heart High School, Harrington has been a three-time All-State and Academic All-State performer and also earned All-State honors in cross country in 2007.

“Rosie is a very athletic outfielder with great speed and leadoff potential, and she will be a threat on the base paths,” said Powers.

Jessica Ulrich will be both a pitcher and a first baseman when she joins the Redhawk program. A native of Lewiston, Idaho, she has been named MVP, Most Inspirational, and team captain of the Lewiston High School softball team for the past three years and earned second team All-League honors as a pitcher in both 2007 and 2008. She set the Idaho state tournament record for home runs, runs batted in, and slugging percentage in 2008.

“Jessica is a power pitcher and a power hitter, and I expect her to help us in the circle and at the plate next season,” Powers said. “She has the potential to become a dominant pitcher as she continues to develop her skills in the circle.”

Allegra Wilde is a third baseman from Kennewick, Wash., who plays for Kamiakin High School and the Washington Ladyhawks Gold. Wilde earned MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors from her conference in 2008, is a two-time first team All-League honoree, and was named first team All-State last season.

“Allegra brings a solid bat and an incredible glove with her to SU. She will step in immediately and follow a line of great third basemen we’ve had at SeattleU the last six years,” said Powers.

Seattle University is coming off a school-record 38-win season and its first-ever conference title in 2008, advancing to the Division II Softball West Regionals for the fourth time in five years. After a year as an independent, playing the majority of its games against Division I competition, the team will join the Pacific Coast Softball Conference and compete in the Mountain Division starting in the spring 2010 season.
