Seattle U Track and Field Competes at WWU Twilight Meet

Several members of the Seattle University track and field team made the trek north Friday evening to compete at the Western Washington University Twilight Meet at Civic Stadium.

Senior Lindsay Currier (Beaverton, Ore.) continued her progress, winning the discus throw with a top effort of 41.45 meters (136'0"). Battling windy and wet conditions, Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) posted a top throw of 26.44 meters (86'9") to finish in 15th place in the javelin throw.

In the jumping events, Becca Urbany (Damascus, Ore.) finished in third place in the triple jump with a top leap of 10.62 meters (34'10.25"), while Amanda Luna (Beavercreek, Ore.) finished in ninth place with a best effort of 9.20 meters (30'2.25"). Urbany also finished 19th in the long jump with a mark of 4.70 meters (15'5"), with Kaytie Bateman (Chehalis, Wash.) posting a top leap of 4.92 meters (16'1.75") for a 15th place finish and Kamala Squires (Ventura, Calif.) finishing in 21st place with a best effort of 4.53 meters (14'10.5").

Bateman pulled double duty, competing in the 100 meter hurdles and finishing in 13th place with a time of 17.82 seconds. Meeghan Bergmann (Portland, Ore.) finished in seventh place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 61.48 seconds, while Clare Obradovich (Tigard, Ore.) won her section of the 800 meter run, finishing 12th overall with a personal-best time of 2:25.54.

Miranda Triay (Upland, Calif.) also competed in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:54.37 for a 22nd place finish. Coming back from injury, Ashley Dalton (Bellingham, Wash.) returned to competition in her hometown with a 17th place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:23.57.

Two Redhawk men saw action in two events during the competition. Jabari Fraser (Bethesda, Md.) finished third in his heat and 18th overall in the 100 meter dash in 12.13 seconds before finishing 12th in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:03.20. Robert Poshusta (Bremerton, Wash.) finished 11th in the 110 meter hurdles in 17.81 seconds and 14th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.27.

Christopher Fussell (Las Vegas, Nev.) placed 10th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.28 seconds. In the men's one mile run, Chris Auld (Eugene, Ore.) crossed the finish line in 18th place with a time of 4:30.73.

The majority of the Seattle University track and field team will head to Spokane, Wash., for the Duane Hartman Invitational at Spokane Falls Community College next Saturday, May 1, beginning at 10 a.m. It remains to be seen whether a select group will head to Eugene, Ore., for the Oregon Relays next weekend.
