WAC RELEASE

DENVER – (Sept. 25) Jessie Ray and Mackenzie Curry of Seattle University women’s soccer have been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for the period ending Sept. 24. Ray scored her WAC-high seventh goal and Curry tallied 11 saves in net for the Redhawks.

Against Portland on Friday, Ray finished a long ball from Kelsey Vogel to put SU ahead, 1-0, in the first half. The line drive goal was Ray’s seventh score of the season-the most in the conference. It marked the sophomore’s third goal in two games.

Curry had a marathon week, playing 211:23 in a pair of double overtime outings. In the Portland match, the sophomore recorded four saves, including two vital stops in the final minute of regulation to keep the contest tied.

On Sunday at Gonzaga, Curry made a career-high seven saves. The native of Irvine, California, logged five stops in the first half and kept SU in the game into the second OT.

Ray also won WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4. Leahi Manthei won the weekly honor the following week. Curry is the first Redhawk to win the league’s defensive award this year.

SU is 4-5-1 this season. It heads to Utah Valley on Saturday for its final non-conference game of the regular season.
