SEATTLE (June 1) – Seattle University women's soccer has signed Arsenal U-17 captain Laura Hooper as part of the Redhawks' Class of 2017. Hooper, a midfielder from Watford, England, will begin play at SU in the fall.

"Laura will immediately add a technical and tactical maturity to our midfield," said Coach Julie Woodward. "Her international experience will prove essential to our program goals for advancing in the NCAA Tournament. England is quickly becoming one of the best national teams in the world, and we are thankful to add one of their brightest prospects to our Seattle U family."

Hooper has played with Arsenal the last four years, coming through the Centre of Excellence. She helped her club win the league and FA Cup twice, serving as team captain. Most recently, Hooper has played on the U-20 Arsenal team.

On the national stage, Hooper has appeared in 23 matches for the English Youth National team (U-15, U-17, U-18). England made it to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2016.

Hooper joins previous signees Kelsey Eagle, Leahi Manthei, and Mikaela Morey in the Seattle U Class of 2017.

Woodward, entering her 21st season at Seattle U, has guided her squad to seven of the eight possible Western Athletic Conference (WAC) titles since 2013. SU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history last season.
