WAC RELEASE

DENVER (Jan. 12) - Seattle University landed 30 student-athletes on the 2016 Fall Academic All-Western Athletic Conference Teams. Redhawks from men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball were recognized by the conference, which released the teams Thursday.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests. A total of 248 student-athletes across the league were selected this fall.

The volleyball team was one of two schools with eight representatives. Mila Duarte, Shae Harris, Iris Ivanis, Claire Johnston, Kerry Lane, Matea Mamic, Maja Stojanovic, and Cecilia Wu were featured this season. Ivanis and Lane have now earned three all-academic nods and Mamic was a 2015 selection.

Men’s cross country had six athletes named to the squad, tied for most in the conference. Eli Boudouris, Tyler Flannery, Nathan McLaughlin, Ben Monk, Matthew Seidel, and Chay Weaver were honored. It is the third career honor for McLaughlin, while Flannery, Monk, Seidel, and Weaver were all-academic last fall.

For women’s cross country, Johanna Erickson, Abbigayle Kohmetscher, Rebecca Lassere, Moira O’Connor Lenth, Lila Rice, and Olivia Stein were recognized. Lassera, Erickson, O’Connor Lenth, and Rice were named previously as well.

Women’s soccer, the 2016 WAC regular season and tournament champions, put six athletes on the team, as Isabelle Butterfield, Hannah Carrothers, Natasha Howe, Jennifer Plummer, Stephanie Spiekerman, and Emily Zimmer picked up honors. Howe has now made three all-academic team appearances, while Plummer and Spiekerman made the team last year as well.

Nathan Aune, Sam Langston, Cameron Rohani, and Jeff Rose represented the men’s soccer team. Rose earned four all-academic certificates, while Rohani has three. Langston also made the team last year.

Women’s soccer put six athletes on the team, as Isabelle Butterfield, Hannah Carrothers, Natasha Howe, Jennifer Plummer, Stephanie Spiekerman, and Emily Zimmer picked up honors. Howe has now made three all-academic team appearances, while Plummer and Spiekerman made the team last year as well.
