SEATTLE – (July 26) Seattle University men's and women's tennis teams were honored for their performance in the classroom on Tuesday as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2017 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes. Both teams earned ITA All-Academic Team distinction while 11 total Redhawks earned individual accolades as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letterwinners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).

For the Redhawk men, it was Matt Alderson, Arshak Ghazaryan, Trenton Nield. Michael Schoettler and John Stormans who each earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Six Seattle U women were recognized including Majidah Cochran, Michelle Lui, Kali McCollister, Audrey Scott, Kailyn Skjonsby and Kelli Woodman.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letterwinner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

This marks the second straight year under Head Coach Adam Reeb that both Redhawk squads have earned team recognition, and the second straight year that the teams have combined for 10 or more individual honorees.
