BIG WEEKEND: For the second consecutive year, Seattle University welcomes a Big Ten school to Bannerwood Park for a weekend series on the second weekend of March. After Northwestern made the trip last year, Minnesota travels west to face the Redhawks this season in a four-game series spread out over five days. Seattle U is one of the hottest teams in the country, with eight wins over its last nine games, but Minnesota will present the Redhawks’ toughest challenge to date with solid pitching, timely hitting, and fundamental defense.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA: The Golden Gophers enter the weekend with a 7-3 overall record after taking two of three games at Georgia State last weekend. As a team, Minnesota has compiled a .343 batting average, a .979 fielding percentage (just eight errors in 10 games played), and a 3.68 earned run average. At the plate, Terrin Vavra is batting .500 (17-for-34) with seven runs scored, a triple, and six RBI. Matt Fielder is batting .475 with a team-high 19 hits, plus he has scored eight runs and stolen four bases so far this season. Toby Hanson and Micah Coffey have hit two home runs apiece, and Austin Athmann is another hitter to watch, as he is currently batting .406 with six doubles, one home run, and nine runs batted in. On the mound, Dalton Sawyer is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA, while Fielder is 2-1 with a 2.66 earned run average, one complete game, and 17 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings of work. Jordan Jess has made three appearances out of the bullpen, picking up one save with a 1.59 ERA.
