EDINBURG, Texas – Another strong offensive performance was thwarted by struggles on the mound for Seattle University baseball, which fell 15-7 at UTRGV on Saturday night at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
The Redhawks totaled 11 hits and scored in five different innings in the Western Athletic Conference match-up. But the Vaqueros put together a trio of big innings, including an eight-run eighth that put the game out of reach.
Kyle Sherick, Connor O'Brien and Max Werner collected two hits apiece while five others have one hit each for Seattle U (9-32, 4-13 WAC). Werner scored three runs and Sherick scored twice while Justin Mazzone drove in a pair of runs.
Starter Josh Thompson got off to a rocky start, walking three in the first inning, which helped lead to four UTRGV runs. The Vaqueros would add three runs in the fourth off reliever Ethan Christianson before the big eight-running inning late.
Seattle U and UTRGV conclude their WAC series Sunday at 12 p.m. local time, 10 a.m. Pacific. For the most up-to-date information on game day, be sure to follow the Redhawks on Twitter at @seattleubase.
