EDINBURG, Texas – Seattle University baseball dropped the opening game of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at UTRGV Friday evening, 7-3.
Kodama delivered all three Seattle U RBIs, driving in two runs on a single in the second innings and the third on a seventh-inning sacrifice fly.
Starting pitcher Jarrod Billig recorded a career-high eight strikeouts over his 6.1 innings of work. The sophomore lefty scattered six hits and three walks for three runs allowed.
The Redhawks and Vaqueros (26-14, 12-4 WAC) sat at an even 2-2 through six innings before Kodama's sacrifice fly in the seventh gave SU the 3-2 lead. But UTRGV would respond off of Redhawk reliever Alex Jemal, ultimately putting together a five-run seventh that would put the game away.
Seattle U and UTRGV continue WAC play on Saturday as game-two of the series begins at 6 p.m. local time, 4 p.m. Pacific. For the most up-to-date information on game day, be sure to follow the Redhawks on Twitter at @seattleubase.
