PHOENIX, Ariz. – Seattle University baseball dropped an eight inning, 14-4 Western Athletic Conference decision at Grand Canyon Thursday evening.

The Lopes (18-18, 6-7 WAC) broke open a 3-3 tie with a big six-run third frame and the Redhawks (8-27, 4-9 WAC) could never recover.

Seattle U took advantage of a GCU fielding error in the third inning to score three runs and tie the score. Austin Lively delivered a two-RBI double and Justin Mazzone knocked in a run with a double to right-center.

But starter Jarrod Billig ran into trouble in the bottom half of the frame as he gave up a single, four walks and a grand slam home run before getting out of the innings with a strikeout. The Lopes would tack on three more runs in the fourth, one in the seventh and the walk-off game-winner in the eighth.

The Redhawks got a solo homer from Jake Taylor in the sixth, his fifth of the season.

The Redhawks and Lopes continue the three-game series Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. For the most up-to-date information on game day, be sure to follow the Redhawks on Twitter at @seattleubase.
