NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Seattle University men’s soccer dropped a 4-2 decision at No. 11 Notre Dame Friday night. Noe Meza and Hal Uderitz scored in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament contest at a wet Alumni Stadium.

“We have to give Notre Dame credit,” said Coach Pete Fewing. “They were good tonight and we learned some valuable lessons. They showed why they’re No. 11 in the country.”

The Redhawks (1-1-1) played right with the Irish Friday, dictating terms for much of the first half. The hosts found a goal in the seventh minute, but SU held up otherwise as it remained a one-goal difference at halftime.

In the second half, the Irish struck for two more goals. However, SU continued to battle and found ways to make Notre Dame work. Shortly after the home side’s third goal, Hamish Ritchie set up Meza for his third goal of the young season in the 62nd minute.

Notre Dame scored again, but Thomas Mickoski responded with a run down the right side and an arcing ball that landed on Uderitz’s foot, where it was chipped in to make it 4-2 in the 77th minute.

Seattle U held a 17-10 advantage in shots, while Akili Kasim made one save in net.

SU wraps up action at the event on Sunday as it takes on second-ranked Indiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Pacific (4 p.m. Eastern).
