Weekly Release: Air Force and Denver

This Week for the Redhawks: The Seattle University men's soccer team (2-10-2 overall, 1-6 MPSF) heads to Colorado for a pair of matches with MPSF Mountain Division foes this weekend. The Redhawks will take on Air Force (8-5-2 overall, 2-3-2 MPSF) at 6 p.m. PT on Friday, Oct. 28, and before facing the Denver Pioneers (4-8-3 overall, 2-4-1 MPSF) on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 12 p.m. PT.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks were edged in both matches last weekend. They battled then-No. 5 New Mexico, but eventually fell, 2-1, on Oct. 21. Two days later, SU was outlasted, 3-2, by UNLV.

Brandon Hamer had a goal and an assist on the weekend, while Mikey Ramos dished a pair of assists.

On Deck: SU will finish the regular season at home versus Cal State Bakersfield Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. Prior to kickoff, the Redhawks will honor the careers of the graduating senior class.

A Helping Hand: Forward Mikey Ramos dished out two assists on Oct. 23 versus UNLV, making him the team assists leader with four.

Top Scorers: Travis Heim, Marshall Kosaka, Brandon Hamer and Elliot Richards are all tied for the most goals scored this season, with a pair each.

Ranked Opponents: The Redhawks have faced four ranked opponents in 2011. They dropped a 3-1 decision to then-No. 9 UCSB on Aug. 27 to open the season, before taking then-No. 23 UW to a scoreless draw on Sept. 11.  Seattle U was edged by both then No. 13/18 UCLA, 2-1, on Sept. 23 and then-No. 5 New Mexico, 2-1, on Oct. 21. 

The Newbies: The Redhawk roster boasts 14 newcomers, with freshman Travis Heim leading the squad with a pair of goals and an assist.

The Captains: The men's soccer captains for the 2011 season are: Marshall Kosaka, Elliot Richards and Demaci Roussos.

Scouting Air Force: Air Force is 8-5-2 overall, 2-3-2 MPSF on the year. They are coming off an undefeated weekend in California, defeating San Jose State 1-0 on Oct. 21, and taking Sacramento State to a scoreless draw on Oct. 23.

Kevin Durr leads the Falcon offense with eight assists and five goals for 18 points in 15 games played. Garrett Getschow is the Falcons' scoring leader, with seven goals.

In goal, Matt Underwood has started and played every minute of all 15 games.  Sporting a 1.04 goals against average, he's made 61 saves and tallied four shutouts. Underwood has also allowed 16 goals and tallied four clean sheets.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Air Force: The Redhawks lost 2-1 to Air Force on Oct. 29, 2010 at Championship Field. Brady Ballew evened the score temporarily at one-all, but the Falcons scored again in the 78th minute to claim the victory.

Scouting Denver: Denver brings a 4-8-3 overall, 2-4-1 MPSF record into the weekend. The Pioneers lost both matches last weekend, falling 2-1 at Sacramento State Oct. 21, and losing 3-0 at San Jose State two days later.

The Pioneers' top goal scorer is Christian Volesky, who has tallied six goals in 11 contests. Jarod Stigall leads the team in assists with five in 15 matches.

Mate Aquirre has managed the majority of DU's time between the pipes. In 10 matches, he has a 1.69 goals against average, 39 saves and two shutouts. Oliver Brown has played in seven matches, notching a goals against average of 2.51, saving 19 shots and earning one shutout.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Denver: SU last faced Denver Oct. 31, 2010 at Championship Field, falling 2-0 to the Pioneers.
