Uli Steidl, assistant coach for the Seattle University cross country and track & field teams, added another title to his already-crowded trophy case, winning the 2012 United States Masters Marathon Championships Sunday morning, held in conjunction with the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

Steidl posted a time of 2:20:59, finishing 13^th overall among all 8,781 finishers of the marathon. He crossed the finish line one minute and 15 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the masters division, Malcolm Campbell of Marietta, Ga., to earn his first United States title since becoming a citizen of the country over two years ago.

In April, Steidl won the masters division at the 2012 Boston Marathon, earning his second career top-15 finish at the historic race. He has previously won the Seattle Marathon eight times and the Vancouver Marathon on five occasions, plus he still holds the record for the Portland Marathon, winning the 1997 edition of the race in 2:17.21.

Steidl will help guide the Seattle U cross country team through the final stretch of the 2012 season, starting with the Emerald City Open this Saturday, Oct. 13, at Lower Woodland Park. . The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the men's eight-kilometer race set to start at 11:15 a.m.
