SEATTLE – Seattle U women’s tennis brought their season record up to 3-3 on Friday with a decisive 7-0 sweep over the University of Puget Sound.
This week featured the Redhawks’ more experienced tennis players, as both senior Lily-Ana Kreutzer and junior Kali McCollister easily defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in singles play. Freshman Jillian Rasmussen took Puget Sound’s Bridget Myers to three sets and prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 10-5. Sophomores Hannah Gianan (6-1, 6-2) and Kyra Jung (6-2, 6-1) also made quick work of their challengers, while freshman Martina Asciuto continued her successful season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
In doubles, the duo of McCollister and freshman Aranza Sanabria did not relinquish a single game to Puget Sound, triumphing 6-0. The senior-freshman pair of Kreutzer and Rasmussen showed off terrific teamwork in a hard-won 6-3 battle, while Gianan and Jung displayed their own mental toughness in another 6-3 win.
"I am happy with our performances, although we are still developing and learning how to work through adverse conditions and stressful situations," said Head Coach Joey Barnes. "Each player contributed their own individual achievements to the team's success today."
The Redhawks have no time to rest, however, as they head to Portland, Ore., on Saturday to face Lewis & Clark College. Matches will begin at 2:00 PM PST.
