The Redhawks earned their first win of the weekend with a win over the Western New Mexico Mustangs. The match came down to number five singles, where Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) and Roy Ulibarri played a tight match. Bediones took the second set 6-2, but Ulibarri hung tough in the second, forcing Bediones into an extra game before winning the second 7-5 for the match-clinching point.

Also winning in singles play against the Mustangs was Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) and Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.), who both won two singles matches on the day. Malagutti took down Western New Mexico's Jean Benoit Belin 6-4, 6-2 at the fourth singles position, while Rapp won 6-0, 6-2 at number six singles against the Mustangs' Omar Lopez.

The Redhawks opened the match by sweeping the doubles contests, with Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.) and Yusuke Kanehira (Tokyo Japan) winning 8-4 at number one doubles over the Western New Mexico duo of Matthieu Covizzi and Juan Pablo Fuentes.

The day started out with another close match, this one between the Redhawks and Weber State, which the Wildcats won 4-3.

SU claimed all three points from singles play, with Rapp leading the way with a two-set victory at number six singles. He defeated Weber State's Ryan Garner 6-4, 6-2 for his third singles victory of the year.

Malagutti won at number five singles, beating Caio Poitena 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) beat Oliver Good 6-7, 7-6, 1-0(10-5).

Meske and Rapp also claimed the Redhawks' only doubles win of the meet by taking down Weber State's Poitena and Peter Ramstromer Pello 8-4.

The Redhawks finish their spring break trip to Las Vegas Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with a match against UC Riverside.
