ELK GROVE, CALIF. – Over a two-day span, Seattle U men’s golf presented fans with some much-improved performances from their squad at the Sacramento State Invitational, held in Elk Grove, Calif. at the Valley Hi Country Club. Sophomore Gabe Spach had the Redhawks’ best outing of the competition, finishing with a total of one-over par after three rounds of 70, 74 and 73, respectively. His score was good for a 21st-place tie in the 71-man field.

“I’m happy about Gabe’s improvements this week, and his attitude in general,” said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. “He really battled all week and stayed positive, and that helped him to clinch our number one spot today.”

Freshman Jack Rahon finished just behind Spach, shooting rounds of 73, 71 and 75 for a three-over 219. Classmate Nathan Cogswell (73-73-74) was on his heels the entire time, posting three solid rounds and finishing at four-over par. Juniors Zack Overstreet (77-77-73) and Greg Gionfriddo (76-76-76) rounded out the Seattle U lineup, while sophomore Quinton Borseth, competing as an individual for the first time this spring, had a fantastic third round in a 79-78-70 effort.

“I know that these guys are capable of more,” said Chandonnet. “We have some work to do before the postseason.”

The Redhawks have less than a week before heading to San Francisco for their next tournament – the Olympic Club Intercollegiate – on March 11-12.
