PALM DESERT, CALIF. – In their second tournament of 2019, Seattle U men’s golf battled against an elite field of 21 teams and 120 individuals at the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, which lasted from Feb. 22-24. 19th-ranked Texas Tech won the team title with an incredible six-under composite score, while Boise State’s Skyler Eubank (-9) took the individual honors. Seattle University finished at +42.
Freshman Jack Rahon led the Redhawks for the second time in a row; this time, he was tied with junior Greg Gionfriddo at seven over par. Rahon (75-75-73) was remarkably consistent over all three days, and Gionfriddo (75-79-69) took a thrilling path to his final score by shaving off 10 strokes between the second and third rounds. Coming in third for Seattle U, freshman Nathan Cogswell posted two rounds of 78 before eliminating four strokes in a Sunday round of 74. Finally, sophomore Gabe Spach (81-74-80) and junior Zack Overstreet (77-78-81) rounded out the Redhawk lineup.
Seattle U has a little over a week before they jet back to California for the Sacramento State Invitational, held on March 4-5 in Elk Grove, Calif.
