SEATTLE - The cross-town rivalry between Seattle University women’s soccer (2-3-2) and the University of Washington (4-2-1) ended in a 5-0 defeat for the Redhawks in front of a packed crowd at Championship Field. Ariana Romero recorded four saves in 78 minutes of play.
Championship Field was raucous as history was made for the largest crowd in program history at 909.
The Huskies attacking pressure was relentless, pushing numbers forward and whipping in deadly crosses that tested the Seattle U backline all night. A Washington goal in the fifth minute would quickly take the air out of the match.
Washington continued its attack and finish its chances in the 48th, 74th, 77thand 90th minutes.
Coach Julie Woodward reflected on her team’s performance tonight, knowing the strength of Washington.
“Washington came out and played very well today. They executed and took advantage of opportunities. We were outmatched today.”
The Redhawks look to bounce back next Friday, Sept. 21 at Championship Field against visiting Gonzaga. Kickoff is set at 7 p.m.
