The Ducks scored early, in the fifth minute, as Kristen Parr took the ball from near midfield and kicked it into the upper right corner of the goal, putting the Ducks on the board first. Parr is the leading scorer for the Ducks so far in 2012 with five goals.
A short time later, in the 12th minute, Taylor Bolibol (Woodinville, Wash.) put Seattle U on the board, scoring her first goal of the season. Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec, Canada) recorded the assist on a free kick pass to tie the game, 1-1.
After scoring, the Redhawks changed the momentum of the game, outshooting the Ducks, 6-4, in the first half, and keeping the ball in Oregon territory for a large part of the first half.
With twelve and a half minutes left in the first half, Oregon’s Scout Libke took two shots, nearly scoring, but SU goalkeeper Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) played great defense to protect the score.
The Ducks struck again in the 34th minute, as Brooke Strawn headed the ball in on a corner kick assist by Libke to put the Ducks ahead, 2-1, which remained the score at the halftime break.
In the 54th minute, Oregon had an opportunity to increase their lead on a penalty kick by Libke, but an impressive save by Smallidge kept the margin at one goal.
Throughout the second half, both teams created offensive opportunities, but they were not enough to score, and the Redhawks fell, 2-1, to the Ducks.
Freshman Dana Connors notched the win in her first career start in goal for the Ducks. Connors made her first appearance versus St. Mary’s when Abby Steele was ejected on a red card.
Smallidge recorded four saves in the complete game effort to Connor’s three saves.
