Freshman Bethany Gehrke (Lynnwood, Wash.) reached the finals in the women's 400 individual medley and improved on her time in the evening session as members of the Seattle University women's swim team competed Saturday in the Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatics Center.

In the morning preliminaries, Gehrke posted a time of 4:38.55, putting her in 21st place among the 81 competitors in the event. She advanced to the "C" finals, where she cut over two seconds off her morning time, finishing the race in 4:36.32, the fourth-fastest time in school history that led to a 20th place finish overall.

Two other members of the team also competed in the morning preliminaries. Whitney Dean (Campbell, Calif.) competed in two events, the 200 freestyle (2:06.20) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.25), while Melanie Frey (Seattle, Wash.) participated in the 100 butterfly (1:05.23).

The Husky Invitational will conclude Sunday, with preliminaries scheduled for 9:30 a.m., and the finals set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
