CHICAGO (Jan. 13) - Seattle University women’s basketball looks to open Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with a 3-0 start as it heads to Chicago State on Saturday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. Central (noon Pacific) at the Jones Convocation Center.
The Redhawks (5-12, 2-0 WAC) are coming off a 75-65 win at UMKC on Thursday. Kaylee Best scored 21 points and then SU bench outscored UMKC’s, 24-0. Seattle U put up 26 fourth-quarter points to pull away from the ‘Roos and move to 2-0 in the WAC.
CSU (0-17, 0-3 WAC) got to overtime against Utah Valley Thursday, but the Wolverines pulled out a 62-59 decision to keep the Cougars winless this season. Jessica Cerda recorded 18 points, hitting four three-pointers in 45 minutes. Kaylee Allen notched 11 points and 8 rebounds while playing the entire game.
Coach Suzy Barcomb’s team is led by Alexis Montgomery, who is putting up 15.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Best is next with 13.8 points and a league-leading 40 made threes this season. Jacinta Beckley has come on since joining the starting lineup, averaging 15.6 points a game over her last three outings.
Allen paces CSU with 14.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest. She has attempted the second-most free throws among WAC players, converting at 77.9 percent, also good for second in the conference. Cerda is averaging 9.1 points and has a team-high 25 three-pointers this season.
SU leads the all-time series, 7-3.
Seattle U last started 3-0 in the WAC during the 2012-13 campaign, when the Redhawks went 7-0 to open conference play.
