FINAL RESULTS

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - (Oct. 15) The women's tennis program at Seattle University wrapped up their second full tournament of the season on Sunday at the Whitman Invitational in Walla Walla, Wash.

Freshman Hannah Gianan and Kyra Jung were both drawn in the blue singles bracket. Gianan, the three seed in the bracket, defeated Lewis-Clark State's Jen Roux without dropping a point, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals after receiving a bye in the round of 16. Jung, who did not receive a bye, fought back to win her round of 16 match against Lewis and Clark State's Laura Rosselli, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. Jung then fell in the quarterfinals to Portland State's Siena Peri, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. Gianan was defeated in the semi-final match by a score of 7-6, 6-1. 

Sophomore Kali McCollister, the two seed, and senior Audrey Scott, the three seed, competed in the yellow singles bracket. In the quarterfinals McCollister defeated Portland State's Ashley Knecht, 6-1, 6-0, while Scott defeated Whitman's Jenna Gilbert, 6-2, 6-0. McCollister then advanced to the championship match when Lori Sheng of Whitman had to withdraw from injury while Scott fell in the semifinal to Alli Valk of Portland State, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. McCollister won the yellow flight with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set victory over Valk.  

In the doubles bracket, senior Kelli Woodman and Kyra Jung defeated Whitman's Jenna Gilbert and Lori Sheng, 8-1 in the quarterfinals. They then advanced to the finals without dropping a point against Estzer Zador and Alli Valk of Portland State. Jung and Woodman then won the championship with a 8-2 victory over Portland State's Brianna Thompson and Seina Peri.

"This was a solid weekend for us," Head Coach Adam Reeb said. "We had some very good performances across the board, especially with Kelli and Kyra taking the doubles flight and Kali winning her singles flight. This was a good tuneup for us for next weeks ITA Regionals, and we've been improving steadily as a team this fall."  

Next up for the Redhawks is a trip to Palo Alto, Calif., for the ITA Regionals on Oct. 19-23.
