BOX SCORE

SEATTLE – (Nov. 26) Seattle University women’s basketball dropped a 79-53 decision to UC Davis Sunday afternoon. The setback at the Connolly Complex snapped SU’s three-game win streak

In the first quarter, the Redhawks (3-3) hung in, as Jacinta Beckley scored early for SU. After a Alexis Montgomery basket, Beckley hit a jumper to make it 6-6 at the 4:13 mark. UC Davis answered with a three-pointer, but Montgomery replied with a trey of her own. A Kallin Spiller putback pulled the hosts even again before the Aggies tried to gain the advantage. A McKenzi Williams jump shot made it 15-13, while Morgan Bertsch scored to give her side a 17-13 lead after a period.

After a Montgomery jumper to open the second frame, the Aggies pulled away. Down by eight, Spiller scored and then Beckley came up with another bucket to trim the deficit to six. A Williams hoop kept the Redhawks in it, but UC Davis stretched its margin to 37-21 before a Leilia Orji foul shot got SU within 15 at the break.

Spiller scored first for Seattle U in the second half and then Beckley sank a triple. Williams scored in the lane, but UC Davis grabbed a 49-30 advantage with 5:40 left. Ashlyn Lewey set up a Beckley four-point play, as the senior drained a three while being fouled. Lewey followed with a three of her own, but the visitors stood firm, going ahead by 19 late in the period. Lewey’s layup trimmed the deficit briefly, but the Aggies led by 20 through 30 minutes.

In the fourth, Beckley found a cutting Carla Bieg for lay-in to highlight the Redhawk proceedings. UC Davis closed out the match to claim its sixth straight win to begin the season.

Beckley led with 15 points and two steals. Montgomery put up 12 points and nine rebounds, while Spiller posted nine points and a career-high 10 boards.

Seattle U will next play at Cal on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m. in Berkeley.
