SEATTLE – (Sept. 15) Seattle University women’s soccer dropped a 3-0 decision at the University of Washington Friday night. Each team attempted eight shots in the match at Husky Soccer Field.
“We have a lot of things to work on (heading into Sunday),” said Coach Julie Woodward. “Tonight, both teams took eight shots, but they capitalized and we couldn’t.”
In the first half, the hosts scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. SU (3-4-0) nearly tied the game just over a minute later, as shots by Leahi Manthei and Jessie Ray almost pierced the goal line. UW (7-2-0) entered the break with a one-goal edge, as both sides took four shots in the frame.
The Huskies added two goals in the second half, but SU continued to pressure the defense. Jennifer Plummer made a stellar move in the box to get a clean look, but was unable to convert in the 82nd minute. The Redhawks claimed two late corner kicks as well, but UW turned away the opportunities.
SU heads to Portland State for another non-conference contest on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
