SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball senior Mattia Da Campo is set to represent his native Italy this week at the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade, taking place in Naples July 4-11.
The Italian National Team begins pool play on Thursday, July 4 against Canada. It will face Norway on July 5 and Germany on July 6 before bracket play begins July 8. Sixteen total nations are set to compete in the tournament.
"We're proud of Mattia for earning this opportunity," said Head Coach Jim Hayford. "He is an outstanding teammate and player and we're thrilled to have him representing his nation and our program on the international stage."
Da Campo appeared in 31 of the Redhawks 33 games during the 2018-19 season. He earned a starting role midway through the season and went on to average 6.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in Western Athletic Conference play.
A native of Venice, Italy, Da Campo has previously competed with the Azzurri as part of the U16 and U20 teams.
