EDGEWOOD, WASH. – Wednesday morning brought the second shortened match in a row for Seattle U women’s tennis as they faced New Mexico at the Jupiter Tennis Center. Despite some solid doubles play and a few close matches in singles, the Lobos ended up prevailing in a 4-0 victory.

Sophomore Kyra Jung had the best complete singles match of the day in a 4-6, 3-6 loss, while classmate Hannah Gianan had similar results in a 3-6, 2-6 finish. Freshman Alisa Sabotic fought hard, but fell to New Mexico’s Albie Huang, 2-6, 1-6. The unfinished matches featured freshman Jillian Rasmussen (5-7, 3-1), junior Kali McCollister (5-7, 2-1) and senior Lily-Ana Kreutzer (2-6, 3-5) in the number four, five and six spots, respectively.

The Redhawks were able to nab a win in doubles play, with Gianan and Kreutzer teaming up to take down their opponents, 6-3. McCollister and freshman Aranza Sanabria fell 1-6 in their own match, but Jung and freshman Martina Asciuto came incredibly close to victory with a final score of 5-7.

Seattle U hopes to get back on track with the start of conference play on Friday, March 22, when they play Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. The match will begin at 12:00 PM.
