KISSIMMEE, Fla. – (March 2) Seattle University baseball opened play at the Irish Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., with a 14-9 defeat to Seton Hall Friday afternoon at OCS Complex.

The Redhawks moved to an even 5-5 on the season while Seton Hall improved to 3-4 overall.

Seattle U held a 7-4 lead through six complete innings, but the Pirates to score four runs in the seventh and six in the eighth to pull away. Each team finished with 13 hits while the Redhawks had one error in the field to Seton Hall's two.

After working a one-two-three inning in the sixth, Tyler Yeh (0-2) took the loss in relief as he gave up five hits for the four earned runs in the seventh. The Pirates' Blake Espinal was credited with the win.

Seattle U jumped on the board in the first as Jake Cosgrove laced a two-RBI triple into right-center field and Sean Sutton added an RBI on a sacrifice fly for an early 3-0 lead. Seton Hall scored the next four runs, but the Redhawks reclaimed the lead with a four-run fifth.

Cosgrove, Sutton and Lucas Denny each knocked in runs during the rally to help Seattle U take a 7-4 advantage. But the Pirates responded with a combined 10 runs in seventh and eighth while the Redhawks tacked on just two more for the final spread.

Cosgrove, Austin Lively, Curtis Perrin and Dalton Hurd all finished with two hits apiece.

The Redhawks continue play at the Irish Classic on Saturday, facing Youngstown State at 5 pm Eastern, 2 p.m. Pacific.
