SEATTLE – Seattle University women’s basketball fell at the University of Washington, 78-46, on Saturday afternoon. McKenzi Williams led the Redhawks with 13 points in the non-conference game at Alaska Airlines Arena.

“We will build off of the second half,” said Coach Suzy Barcomb. “It’s unfortunate we can’t seem to catch a break and get ourselves healthy.

The hosts got out to an early 6-0 lead before Williams got SU on the board. UW clamped down from there and took a 23-5 lead after a period. In the second frame, Georgia Kehoe made a layup and Olivia Crawford followed with a hoop, but the Huskies continued to pull away. A Genessa Bedoya jumper slowed the hosts’ momentum briefly, but Washington led at halftime, 44-13.

In the third period, Crawford and Kamira Sanders both scored early and then Carla Bieg pulled down a rebound and scored. Another Kehoe bucket trimmed the deficit midway through the frame. Sanders set up a Bieg trey and then Joana Alves sank two foul shots as the Huskies managed a 33-point difference with 10 minutes to go.

Williams swished a three to start fourth-quarter scoring. Makenna Schoenhofer, a redshirt freshman, made her Redhawk debut in the contest. She saw eight minutes of playing time, making a free throw in the fourth frame and tallying a steal.

Williams paced SU with 13 points and four rebounds. Alves grabbed nine boards on the day.

SU returns home to welcome Central Washington on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Redhawk Center.
