AMERICAN LAKE, Wash. – Seattle University women's rowing opened the 2019-20 season on Saturday, putting six boats in the water at the Puget Sound Autumn Invite. The Redhawks finished runner-up in one race and placed third in two others.
"This was a great way to start our fall season," said Head Coach Jenny Park. "It was a great day for racing and we were able to get all of our novices down the course for the first time. We're looking forward to building on this race and coming back home to compete in Seattle next Sunday."
The Redhawks' Varsity 4+ 'A' boat, consisting of (C) Livija Langberg, (S) Lauryn Hepp, Caitlin Mitchell, Hannah Sjogren, (B) Nicole Robbins, placed second to the University of Portland, covering the 4,000-meter course in 16:15.3. Seattle U's 'B' and 'C' Varsity 4+ boats finished in 17:29.4 and 17:36.2, respectively.
Seattle U's two Novice 8+ boats each took third in their respective races. The team of (C) Hannah Twaddell, (S) Shannon Sadler, Abigail Adams, Sarah Hunt, Jenna Martin, Bridget Conroy, Kaia Beckius, Jordan Deas, (B) Dani Kutulas completed the course in 17:47.4, while the second boat took third in 18:42.7.
The Redhawks' Varsity 8+ earned a fourth-place finish, covering the course in 14:55.0.
The Redhawks continue fall competition on Sunday at the Head of the Lake meet, hosted by the University of Washington at the Montlake Cut on Lake Washington.
