DENVER – Seattle University women's basketball senior Kamira Sanders was named Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) First Team for the media and Second Team for the coaches. Senior Joana Alves earned All-WAC Second Team on the coaches’ team. The league held its annual media day on Wednesday in Denver.
Coach Suzy Barcomb begins her fourth season at the helm of the program. She is one of two active coaches to take teams to the NCAA Tournament at Division I, Division II, and Division III.
Sanders and Alves highlight a strong senior class for the Redhawks. Sanders was the 2017 WAC Freshman of the Year and the 2018 WAC Tournament MVP. She needs 56 points for 1,000 career points. Alves was picked All-WAC Second Team last season.
"Kamira would be the first to say she wasn't happy with last season," said Barcomb. "She is focused on new responsibilities this season and she is determined to have an outstanding senior season.”
"Joana's junior season was her best performance to date," said Barcomb. "She has a new focus this year and I think she has a deeper understanding of her role."
