CHICAGO – Seattle University women’s soccer won, 4-1, at Chicago State on Friday afternoon. Holly Rothering scored two goals in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opener at Kroc Stadium.
"I thought the team had great moments of patience and played pretty good soccer today," said Coach Julie Woodward. "Our finishing could have been better, but we maintained very good pressure and created good opportunities."
Seattle U set a Division I program record with 41 shots in the contest. It also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
The Redhawks pounded the hosts with shots throughout the first half, but the Cougars held SU off the board for over 30 minutes to start. In the 33rd minute, Rothering broke through with a goal for a 1-0 lead.
The home side came back with a goal in the second half, but freshman Kelsey Crosby tallied a goal to make it 4-1 in the 69th minute.
Seattle U heads to Kansas City for a rematch of the 2018 WAC Championship on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Central (11 a.m. Pacific).
