FRESNO, CALIF. – Sophomore Nathan Cogswell ran the show for Seattle U men’s golf this week as he finished the Nick Watney Invitational with an incredible -10 203 (72-68-63), including a third round of eight-under on the par-71 Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno, Calif. His performance, which included an eagle in the last round, was enough to propel him to a fourth-place finish in the field of 92.

“Nathan’s 63 was the best round posted by a student-athlete since I started coaching at Seattle U,” said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. “We almost set a program record at -13 on the day, which is phenomenal.”

As a team, Seattle U finished eighth overall with a combined plus-one; the first-place trophy went to Brigham Young.

Sophomore Jack Rahon shot an eagle of his own in a solid 71-73-72 performance, and senior Greg Gionfriddo (78-73-69) showed consistent improvement throughout the tournament. He was followed closely by sophomore Federico Gutierrez (77-77-67), who came in just one stroke behind Gionfriddo; finally, junior Quinton Borseth (76-72-79) turned in yet another eagle for Seattle U.

“I’m proud of my team for continuing to grind and stay positive,” said Chandonnet. “This team is special. The most exciting part for me is just how much they love the game and love to compete. It’ll be a fun couple of years with this group.”

For their next outing, the Redhawks will travel to Corvallis, Ore., for the Oregon State Invitational on Oct. 14-15.
