COLFAX, Wash. – Seattle University cross country competed at the West Region Preview in Colfax, Wash., Friday evening. Olivia Stein and Nathan Pixler were the top finishers for the women and men, respectively. 

“The ladies overcame getting out to a slow start, but rallied in the second half of the race,” said Coach Kelly Sullivan. “They learned a lot today. The men made some strides as well. We know they can gain a lot over the next month. Both teams know we have some work to do and our attitudes are really good.”

Washington State won the meet on the women’s side. SU placed sixth in the standings. Stein, a senior, paced the Redhawks with a 22:14.6 effort, good for 23rd. Junior Rachel Kastama was next in 26th with a time of 22:21.7 Friday. Courtney Gelmini, a sophomore, ran a 22:29.8 to place 32nd.     

For the men, Gonzaga claimed first place, while the Redhawks slotted in eighth. Pixler, a redshirt junior, posted a 25:32.0 time, with fellow junior Kyle Kennedy the next SU finisher at 25:53.0. Sophomore Ansel Pendley-Griffin tallied a 25:55.1 effort.

SU next races at the UW Sundodger Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Chambers Bay.
